i did some looking and basically, the NGOs that monitor/soft-enforce the Geneva convention are giving Ukraine a pass on video usages like this since Russia

1. refuses to acknowledge or frame this as a war
2. is mistreating their POWs much worse
3. is committing even worse atrocities

so… yeah it’s not strictly speaking good that Ukraine released this footage, but it’s kind of being internationally recognized as necessary given the circumstances. those NGOs have set the standard that the subjects of videos like this must not suffer excessive or unnecessary indignity

Constituent states within the EU can have more laws on top of the EU’s laws. Maybe things have changed since the last time I had to implement code to respect these laws, but as of two years ago Germany and Sweden were the two countries where we had to make the most considerations with Germany being VERY strong
